Not Just Co-located, but Co-operated – that was the directive from the City of Arlington, Texas for the innovative EAST Library and Recreation Center at Bob Cooke Park. It is also a catalyst project to intended to incent redevelopment in the New York Avenue corridor in East Arlington.
Understanding each entity’s operations was paramount in designing this project because recreation and library would share common areas and program spaces in this 47,000 SF facility. Terms like “cross-training” of staff were a premise but not yet well-defined. Our team helped City staff navigate the design decision-making process of this innovative operational model in order to inform the design.
