The second of two pools that we have designed for the City of Irving, the West Irving Aquatic Center’s first challenge was to find a site. The city and architects vetted two sites through a series of public input meetings and measurable practical metrics, only to land on a third site as the most viable option. The unexpected delay in reaching consensus on the site dramatically squeezed the design schedule, but the project was delivered on time and on budget. Heavily influenced by floodplain, existing trees, and steep slopes, the project is terraced and provides dramatic views on approach and from within the park.
